Overview
Embark on an unforgettable cycling journey from northern Vietnam to the south, beginning in the vibrant capital of Hanoi and finishing in dynamic Ho Chi Minh City.
This 18-day adventure brings together some of Vietnam’s most iconic landscapes, historic cities and coastal roads, offering a rewarding way to experience the country from the saddle.
The journey starts with the spectacular limestone scenery of Ha Long Bay before heading through the countryside of northern Vietnam and onward by overnight train to the former imperial capital of Hue. From there, ride south across the legendary Hai Van Pass, explore charming Hoi An and continue along Vietnam’s beautiful central coastline through Quang Ngai, Quy Nhon, Tuy Hoa and Nha Trang.
As the route moves farther south, the scenery gradually shifts to warmer beaches, fishing villages, sand dunes and quiet coastal roads. Ride through Ca Na, Mui Ne and Ho Tram before completing the journey in Ho Chi Minh City.
With approximately 875 kilometres of cycling over 12 riding days, this tour combines challenging rides with comfortable support, cultural experiences, scenic cruising, historic sites and well-earned rest days. It is a complete north-to-south cycling experience showcasing the remarkable persity of Vietnam from Ha Long Bay to the southern coast.

DAY 1: HANOI – WELCOME TO VIETNAM

Welcome to Vietnam! Upon arrival at Noi Bai International Airport, your Vietnam Adventure Cycling guide will meet you and assist with the transfer to your hotel in central Hanoi. After check-in, the remainder of the day is yours to relax after your journey or begin exploring Vietnam’s fascinating capital at your own pace. In the late afternoon, we gather for a bike fitting and tour briefing. Your guide will introduce the route ahead, cycling procedures, safety guidelines and some of the highlights awaiting us on our journey from north to south. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner with the group and get to know your fellow riders before our adventure across Vietnam begins. |

After breakfast, we leave the energetic streets of Hanoi and travel southwest toward the mountains of Hoa Binh Province. A transfer takes us away from the busy city traffic before we unload the bikes and begin our first ride through the peaceful countryside. The route follows quieter rural roads through farming communities, limestone valleys and green agricultural landscapes. As we approach Mai Chau, the scenery becomes increasingly mountainous, with rice fields spreading across the valley floor beneath forested hills. By afternoon, we arrive in the beautiful Mai Chau Valley, home to traditional Thai and Muong communities. After completing our ride, we check into our accommodation and enjoy some time to relax before dinner.

This morning, we leave Mai Chau and continue deeper into the mountains toward Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Today's ride follows quiet village roads through rice paddies, traditional communities and dramatic mountain scenery. The terrain is gently rolling with several climbs, so we keep the riding distance moderate and allow plenty of time to enjoy the landscape. As we enter the Pu Luong region, terraced rice fields climb the hillsides, while small villages appear between limestone peaks and forested valleys. We stop along the way for lunch and opportunities to experience daily life in the countryside. By late afternoon, we reach our accommodation in Pu Luong and settle in for a relaxing evening surrounded by mountains and rice terraces.

After breakfast, we leave the mountain landscapes of Pu Luong and continue southeast toward Cuc Phuong. We begin riding through quiet valleys and traditional villages, following a mixture of paved rural roads and countryside tracks. The scenery gradually changes as we descend from the Pu Luong region into gentler agricultural landscapes surrounded by limestone hills. After lunch, we continue riding through peaceful countryside before meeting our support vehicle for the final transfer toward Cuc Phuong National Park. In the afternoon, we arrive near Vietnam's oldest national park and check into our accommodation. The remainder of the day is yours to relax and enjoy the peaceful natural surroundings.

After breakfast, we leave Cuc Phuong and cycle toward Ninh Binh through one of northern Vietnam's most picturesque rural landscapes. Quiet country roads lead us through rice paddies, farming villages and spectacular limestone scenery. As we approach the Ninh Binh region, dramatic karst formations rise above the surrounding fields and waterways, creating the landscapes for which the area is famous. We continue through the Tam Coc countryside, enjoying a relatively gentle final cycling day in northern Vietnam before finishing our ride in Ninh Binh. After time to freshen up and enjoy dinner, we transfer to the railway station and board the overnight train south toward Hue.

After arriving in Hue and settling into the hotel, today is dedicated to discovering the history and culture of Vietnam’s former imperial capital. We explore some of Hue’s most important landmarks, beginning with the Imperial Citadel, once the political and ceremonial heart of the Nguyen Dynasty. We then continue along the peaceful Perfume River to visit the iconic Thien Mu Pagoda, one of the city’s best-known symbols. Later, we visit one of Hue’s impressive royal tombs, where elaborate architecture, landscaped gardens and traditional design offer a fascinating glimpse into Vietnam’s imperial past. The afternoon is kept relaxed, giving us time to enjoy Hue’s riverside atmosphere and recover after the overnight train journey before returning to the bikes tomorrow. |

After breakfast, we leave Hue and begin one of the most memorable cycling stages of the journey. A short transfer takes us outside the city before we start riding south through the countryside toward the coast. The route passes Cau Hai Lagoon and continues toward the beautiful coastal town of Lang Co, where mountains, lagoon and sea come together in one spectacular landscape. From Lang Co, we take on the legendary Hai Van Pass, one of Vietnam’s most celebrated cycling climbs. The steady ascent rewards us with dramatic views over the coastline and surrounding mountains before an exhilarating descent toward Da Nang. We continue along the coast, passing My Khe Beach, before completing the journey toward the historic town of Hoi An. In the evening, enjoy the lantern-lit streets, riverside restaurants and colorful atmosphere of the old town. |

Today we leave Hoi An by bicycle and head into the peaceful countryside surrounding this historic trading port. Quiet village roads take us through rice fields, traditional communities and rural farmland, offering a closer look at daily life away from the busy tourist areas. Along the way, we may encounter local workshops and traditional crafts that have been practiced in the region for generations. Our destination is My Son Sanctuary, a UNESCO World Heritage Site hidden among forested hills. Once the spiritual center of the ancient Champa Kingdom, the complex contains remarkable brick temples dating back many centuries. After exploring the archaeological site and learning about Cham history and architecture, we return to Hoi An by support vehicle. The remainder of the afternoon is free to enjoy the old town at your own pace. |

After breakfast, we leave Hoi An and continue south through the countryside and along Vietnam’s central coastal region. Our ride follows quieter backroads through rice fields, farming communities and small fishing villages. Much of the day is spent away from the main highway, allowing us to experience a more peaceful and authentic side of central Vietnam. Along the way, we cross local waterways and continue through a changing landscape of coastal plains, rural villages and open countryside. Later in the day, we visit the My Lai Memorial, an important historical site that provides a moving insight into one of the most tragic chapters of the Vietnam War. After the visit, we complete the journey to Quang Ngai and check into our hotel for the evening.

After breakfast, we leave Quang Ngai and continue south toward the coast. A short transfer helps us avoid the busier sections before we begin riding along quieter rural and coastal roads. The route passes through rice fields, fishing communities and traditional salt-producing areas, where local families continue to harvest salt using methods passed down through generations. Depending on the season, we may stop to observe the salt fields and learn more about this distinctive part of coastal life. We continue through open countryside and small villages, with occasional views toward the sea. After lunch, the ride carries on through gently rolling terrain before we meet the support vehicle for the final transfer into Quy Nhon. By late afternoon, we arrive in Quy Nhon, a relaxed coastal city surrounded by beaches, fishing villages and low hills.

This morning, we leave Quy Nhon and head south through one of the quieter stretches of Vietnam’s central coastline. After a short transfer, we begin cycling along peaceful backroads through farming communities, coastal plains and small villages. The route offers a mix of flat and gently rolling terrain, making it a comfortable day for enjoying the surrounding scenery. We stop along the way for lunch before continuing through rural landscapes toward Tuy Hoa. The final section may be completed by support vehicle depending on road conditions and the group’s pace. Upon arrival, we check into our hotel near the beach and enjoy a relaxing evening in Tuy Hoa, one of Vietnam’s quieter coastal cities. |

After breakfast, we continue south along a beautiful section of Vietnam’s coastline. The morning ride follows quieter roads through fishing villages, rice fields and coastal countryside, with regular views toward the sea. Rolling terrain keeps the day varied without being overly demanding, and several gentle descents make for enjoyable riding. Along the way, we pass sections of the historic Reunification Railway and communities where everyday life remains closely connected to farming and fishing. After lunch, we continue cycling through the countryside before meeting our support vehicle for the final approach into Nha Trang, one of Vietnam’s best-known seaside destinations. The evening is free to relax by the beach or explore the waterfront.

Today is a well-earned break from the bikes as we enjoy the tropical coastline around Nha Trang Bay. After breakfast, we head to the harbor and board a boat for a relaxing day among the offshore islands. Depending on conditions, there may be opportunities for swimming, snorkeling and simply enjoying the warm waters of the South China Sea. Lunch is served during the excursion before we return to Nha Trang in the afternoon. The remainder of the day is free for you to relax by the beach, enjoy the hotel facilities, explore the city or simply recharge before continuing south tomorrow. |

After breakfast, we leave Nha Trang and continue south along the coast. A short transfer takes us beyond the busier urban areas before we begin riding through fishing villages, dry coastal landscapes and open countryside. The scenery becomes noticeably different from the greener regions farther north, with rocky hills, sandy stretches and increasingly arid terrain creating a distinctive backdrop for the ride. We stop for lunch along the way before continuing toward Ca Na, a small coastal town known for its dramatic shoreline and views across the blue water. By late afternoon, we arrive at our hotel and enjoy a quiet evening by the sea. |

Today we continue south through one of the most visually distinctive parts of the Vietnamese coast. After breakfast, we begin cycling along quieter roads through dry coastal countryside, fishing communities and stretches of open sand dunes. The landscape is wide and exposed, with strong contrasts between the blue sea, pale sand and low vegetation. As we approach Mui Ne, the scenery becomes increasingly famous for its red and white sand dunes, fishing villages and long beaches. We complete the day’s ride before checking into our hotel in Mui Ne, where the evening is free to relax and enjoy the coastal atmosphere. |

After breakfast, we leave Mui Ne and continue farther south along a quieter stretch of coastline. The ride passes through small fishing villages, dragon fruit farms and rural coastal communities, with sections of open road offering long views across the surrounding countryside. The terrain is mostly gentle, making today a comfortable riding day despite the longer distance. We stop for lunch along the way before continuing toward the Ho Tram area. By late afternoon, we arrive in Ho Tram, known for its long beaches and relaxed seaside atmosphere. After checking into the hotel, enjoy some well-earned time to unwind.

Today is our final cycling stage of the journey. After breakfast, we leave Ho Tram and ride through rubber plantations, farming areas and quiet countryside roads as we make our way toward southern Vietnam’s largest city. The route gives us one last opportunity to experience rural life from the saddle before the surroundings gradually become more developed as we approach the outskirts of Ho Chi Minh City. After completing the ride, we meet the support vehicle for the final transfer into the city center. Arriving in Ho Chi Minh City marks the end of our north-to-south cycling journey across Vietnam. In the evening, we gather for a farewell dinner and celebrate the many landscapes, climbs, coastlines and communities experienced along the way.

After breakfast, the tour comes to an end in Ho Chi Minh City.
