MEKONG DELTA & ANGKOR BACKROADS ADVENTURE

Overview

This journey is a natural evolution of our signature Mekong Delta cycling experience—extended beyond Vietnam and deep into the heart of Cambodia. Starting with the lush waterways, coconut groves, and rural backroads of southern Vietnam, the adventure gradually unfolds into a cross-border expedition linking river life with one of Southeast Asia’s greatest ancient civilizations.

From the Mekong Delta, riders make their way toward Ho Chi Minh City, where the rhythm of modern Vietnam contrasts sharply with the quiet countryside you’ve pedaled through. From here, the journey continues into Cambodia, opening a new chapter of discovery.

In Cambodia, the pace slows and the landscape widens. You’ll cycle remote red-dirt backroads around Siem Reap, passing rice fields, village schools, pagodas, and everyday Khmer life rarely seen by visitors. The route is designed to avoid crowds and traffic, focusing instead on immersive, human-scale encounters.

The tour reaches its cultural pinnacle with multiple cycling days through the legendary Angkor Archaeological Park. You’ll explore iconic temples, forest-hidden ruins, and lesser-known complexes, including journeys to Banteay Srei, Kulen Mountain, and the atmospheric ruins of Beng Mealea—all by bike, at a pace that allows space for reflection and photography.

The final days bring you onto quiet village paths and along waterways leading to Cambodia’s floating villages, offering a rare glimpse into life shaped entirely by water. The journey then returns to Ho Chi Minh City, completing a loop that connects rivers, borders, cultures, and centuries of history.

This tour is ideal for riders seeking true adventure cycling: varied terrain, cultural depth, cross-border exploration, and the rewarding unpredictability that defines real travel. Fully supported by our experienced crew, you can focus entirely on the ride, the scenery, and the stories that unfold along the way.

After breakfast, we board a boat and drift into the heart of the upper Mekong, where floating houses bob gently on the water’s surface. Beneath them, catfish and red snappers swirl in quiet schools — raised right under the homes of the families who live here. It’s a life suspended between river and sky, simple yet astonishing. 🐟🏠

Our journey continues to a Cham village, home to around 12,000 people. Here, tradition lives in every thread: women weave sarongs and hats by hand, preserving ancestral techniques passed down through generations. We pause to walk to the local mosques, where the rhythm of prayer and the soft murmur of Arabic lessons echo through the halls — a glimpse into the spiritual and educational life of the Cham community. 🕌🧵

Then, the wheels begin to turn. We hop on our bikes and pedal through serene country roads from Chau Doc toward the lush embrace of Tra Su forest. A quick coffee stop offers a moment to recharge before we continue onward, cycling through emerald fields and quiet villages.

The road leads us to Ba Chuc — a solemn site known as the killing fields of Vietnam. Here, in 1978, over 3,000 lives were lost under the brutal regime of Pol Pot. It’s a place of remembrance, reflection, and resilience. 🕊️

As the sun begins to dip, we transfer to Long Xuyen. After checking into the hotel, a warm dinner awaits — a chance to unwind and absorb the day’s journey.

The road is narrow, intimate, and alive with the rhythms of local life: children waving from doorsteps, farmers tending to their fields, and the gentle hum of morning chores. 🚲🌅

We pause to visit a serene Bird Sanctuary, where flocks of storks and herons glide across the sky, their calls echoing through the trees. It’s a moment of stillness, a reminder of nature’s quiet majesty. 🕊️🌳

As we cruise slowly through the maze of boats, you’ll witness a kaleidoscope of fruits, vegetables, and voices, all bobbing gently on the water. It’s commerce in motion, painted with the colors of daily life. 🍍🚤🛍️

The boat then glides to shore for a visit to a nearby land market, offering a striking contrast: stalls rooted to the ground, bustling with locals, and filled with the earthy scent of fresh produce. Two worlds, one rhythm — both essential to the Mekong’s pulse. 🌾🛒

A short van transfer brings us to the cycling point, where we begin a new chapter of the journey. We cross the river by local ferry, stepping onto Orchid Island — a lush, fragrant haven tucked between waterways. After exploring, we return to the mainland and continue pedaling along quiet country roads that hug the Mekong River. 🚴‍♀️🌿

As we ride deeper into the villages, the scenery becomes more intimate: children playing by the roadside, farmers waving from their fields, and the gentle hum of river life all around. We pause for a special lunch at a local restaurant — a final taste of the Delta’s warmth and flavor. 🍲🌞

Then, it’s time to board the van for our transfer to Ho Chi Minh City. The journey ends, but the memories linger — of floating markets, ferry crossings, and the quiet beauty of village life.
