Overview
Nestled in southern Vietnam, the Mekong Delta is known as the country’s rice bowl, producing up to three crops annually. Beyond its agricultural riches, the region is celebrated for its lush orchards, vibrant flowers, and intricate waterways.
The mighty Mekong River, stretching 4,500 km across six countries, ends its journey here, splitting into nine branches that flow into the sea—hence its Vietnamese name, Cửu Long, meaning Nine Dragons. Spanning 12 provinces, the Delta has flourished as a hub of agriculture and commerce since the Nguyễn lords transformed its marshlands into an extensive canal network in the 1800s.
Home to Khmer, Chinese, Chams, and Vietnamese communities, the region boasts a rich cultural tapestry. Exploring the Delta by bicycle offers a unique perspective, allowing riders to soak in the scenery, engage with local people, and experience the authentic rhythm of daily life.
With its endless green rice fields, meandering rivers, and lively villages, the Mekong Delta invites you to embrace its natural beauty and cultural persity.
This remarkable adventure is brought to you by Vietnam Cycling Adventure.

|
Day 2: HO CHI MINH - TRA VINH
|
After breakfast, we leave the busy streets of Ho Chi Minh City and head south into the heart of the Mekong Delta. A short transfer brings us beyond the urban sprawl, where we begin cycling on quiet backroads. Today’s ride takes us through a patchwork of rice fields, coconut groves, and canal-lined villages. We cross the Mekong’s branches by local ferries, offering a first-hand glimpse of daily river life. Along the way, we stop at small markets and family workshops to experience the rhythm of the countryside. As we approach Trà Vinh, the scenery becomes increasingly lush and peaceful. This area is home to a strong Khmer community, reflected in the architecture of local pagodas and village life. Arrive in Trà Vinh in the late afternoon, check in to the hotel, and enjoy time to relax after your first full day of cycling. |
|
Day 3: TRA VINH - SOC TRANG

This morning, we continue deeper into the Mekong Delta, cycling along peaceful canals and shaded village roads. The route winds through coconut plantations, rice paddies, and small hamlets where daily life unfolds at an unhurried pace. Today’s ride highlights the cultural richness of the delta, passing traditional Khmer villages and colorful pagodas. We pause along the way to visit local markets and observe handicrafts and farming activities that have shaped this region for generations. As we approach Sóc Trăng, you’ll notice a unique blend of Khmer, Vietnamese, and Chinese influences reflected in temples, architecture, and local cuisine. Leaving Sóc Trăng behind, we cycle along quiet rural roads, passing endless rice fields, shrimp ponds, and waterways that define life in the delta. The landscape gradually changes as we approach Vietnam’s southernmost region. Traffic is minimal, and the ride offers a strong sense of isolation and adventure. Along the way, we stop to observe local fishing practices and everyday village life far from the usual tourist routes. In the afternoon, we arrive in Cà Mau, a frontier town surrounded by mangroves and waterways. After checking into the hotel, there is time to rest or take a short walk around town. |
