We begin our ride in the serene heart of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage Site steeped in spiritual history and timeless charm. With its saffron-robed monks, ancient temples, and French colonial flair, this city sets the perfect tone for the adventure ahead. 🛕🌸

🚵‍♀️Leaving the city behind, we pedal into the northern highlands, where quiet roads lead us to a Hmong village school supported by Vietnam Adventure Cycling—a meaningful stop that bridges cultures and supports local education. 📚🤝

 

Our route continues to Leua Village, where a warm welcome and traditional Tai Lue homestay await. Here, we’ll witness firsthand the beautiful simplicity of rural Lao life—from intricate handweaving to cotton-making, all set against a backdrop of green hills and wide smiles. 🧶🏞️

 

From the hills, we descend toward the Mekong River, where a tranquil boat ride carries us back to Luang Prabang. But the journey doesn’t pause for long—we’re soon heading south, riding past rice paddies and riverside paths toward Vang Vieng, a landscape framed by towering limestone cliffs and lush karst formations. ⛰️🌿

 

The road winds gently on to Vientiane, Laos’ laid-back capital resting on the banks of the Mekong. With its tree-lined avenues, ancient stupas, and riverfront cafés, it’s the perfect place to pause, reflect, and soak in the slower pace of life. ☕🏛️

 

✈️ A short flight takes us to Pakse, where the final leg of our cycling adventure begins. We ride south into the dreamlike beauty of Si Phan Don—the Four Thousand Islands, where palm-lined shores, waterfalls, and sleepy fishing villages blend into a picture of peaceful paradise. 🌴🚣‍♀️

In the afternoon, we’ll gather for a bike fitting session 🚴‍♀️🔧 to make sure everything is comfortable and road-ready for the days ahead. As the sun sets, we’ll come together for a delicious welcome dinner 🍽️🍷—a chance to meet the team and get an overview of our cycling journey across Laos.

Day 2: LUANG PRABANG - PAKMONG

River Cruise to Pak Ou Caves & Scenic Ride to Pak Mong 🛶🚴‍♂️
We begin our day with a peaceful boat journey along the Mekong River, departing from the cultural haven of Luang Prabang. Our destination is the sacred Pak Ou Caves, where hundreds of ancient Buddha statues quietly watch over the flowing waters—a spiritual site tucked into limestone cliffs. 🛕🌿
After exploring the caves, we enjoy a leisurely lunch at a riverside restaurant, soaking in the calm views of the river. Then, it’s time to hop on our bikes for the first long ride of the tour. 🚴‍♀️

Day 3: PAK MONG - OUDOMXAY

Today’s ride takes us far from the usual tourist paths, deep into the untouched beauty of northern Laos. We begin with a challenging uphill climb, ascending into dense jungle and mist-covered hills—a true immersion into the wild, green heart of the country. 🌲⛰️
As the road levels out, we roll over a series of gentle hills, passing through isolated villages and breathtaking scenery. This is where Laos reveals its quiet magic: mountain ridgelines stretching into the distance, vibrant greenery, and occasional glimpses of rural life untouched by time.
Our destination is Oudomxay, a vibrant provincial capital nestled among the mountains and home to over 22 ethnic minorities, including the Akha, Hmong, and Mien. The descent into the city at day’s end offers a well-earned reward after an exhilarating 83 km ride.

Our destination is Ban Nalay, a village where Vietnam Adventure Cycling has formed a meaningful connection by supporting the local school and community projects. Upon arrival, we’ll be welcomed by our host families and treated to an evening of traditional Lao celebrations, complete with music, food, and cultural rituals. 🎶🍛🎉

Our journey winds past traditional H’Mong villages, where stilted wooden homes perch on steep hillsides and children wave as we pass by. The road steadily climbs, offering panoramic views of mist-covered valleys and jagged karst cliffs—perfect for those with a love for nature and photography.
After a fulfilling 78 km of cycling, we transfer by vehicle the final 66 km to Phoukoun, a quiet highland town nestled among the peaks. Here, we enjoy a well-earned dinner and peaceful overnight stay.

DAY 9: PHOUNKHON-VANG VIENG

At the 24 km mark, we stop for a well-earned break at a natural hot spring—perfect for refreshing and rehydrating before continuing through the lush valley. We arrive in Kasi for lunch, where the serene surroundings and friendly locals offer a welcome midday pause. 🍜🌿
In the afternoon, we hop back on the bikes and make our way toward Vang Vieng, a riverside town nestled among dramatic limestone karsts and known for its laid-back charm and stunning landscapes. 🚵‍♀️🏞️
With 100 km behind us, we finish the day at a peaceful resort by the Nam Song River, ready to rest and recharge.

For those seeking adventure, we highly recommend a full day discovering the area’s famous blue lagoons—don’t forget your swimsuit and a towel! 🏊‍♂️🌊 These crystal-clear waters are ideal for a refreshing dip or simply soaking up the sun.
If you prefer something more active, kayaking along the Nam Song River offers a peaceful way to take in the natural beauty of the region. 🛶✨ And after a day of fun, treat yourself to a traditional Lao massage to relax tired muscles and rejuvenate the body. 💆

Though the surface may be rough in places, this route sees little traffic, making for a calm and pleasant ride. The terrain is mostly flat, allowing us to maintain a steady pace and arrive in the capital by early afternoon.
With the ride complete, there’s time to relax and reflect on the journey before enjoying dinner in the city. Vientiane, with its riverside charm and French colonial architecture, offers a fitting end to our Laos adventure.

DAY 13: PAKSE - WAT PHU - CHAMPASAK

Cycling Along the Mekong & Exploring Ancient Wat Phou 🚴‍♂️🏞️
After breakfast, we set off on a scenic ride along the tranquil Mekong River, tracing its gentle curves through the Laotian countryside. Our first stop comes after 20 km, where we pause to enjoy fresh fruit, light snacks, and drinks under the shade—an energizing break with river views. 🍉🚰
We continue cycling, eventually crossing the river by local ferry ⛴️, leaving the Mekong behind us as we head toward one of Southern Laos’ most revered historical sites: Wat Phou. Nestled at the base of Champasak Hill, this majestic 12th-century Khmer temple—built under the reign of King Jayavarman VII—offers breathtaking views and a deep sense of spiritual history. We spend around 45 minutes to an hour exploring this UNESCO World Heritage Site.
In the afternoon, we ride back toward Champasak and settle into our riverside hotel, the perfect place to unwind and soak in the peaceful surroundings. 🌅

DAY 14: CHAMPASAK – DON KHONG

Pedaling along peaceful dirt paths, we weave through quiet villages and witness everyday island life—farmers tending their fields, children playing under stilted homes, and water buffalo lazing in the shade. 🐃🌾
We then board another ferry back to the mainland, where a smooth stretch of road takes us to a central junction. From here, we transfer by vehicle to a lunch stop before continuing our cycling adventure.
In the afternoon, we ride onto Don Khong, the largest island in the Si Phan Don (4,000 Islands) region—right near the Cambodian border. This beautiful island is a tranquil escape, with lush scenery, friendly locals, and timeless river views. 🌅
We arrive in Don Khong by early evening, where a warm meal and riverside rest await.

Today offers a gentle yet immersive ride as we set off straight from the hotel and dive into the serene beauty of Si Phan Don, or the “4,000 Islands”—a magical region scattered across the Mekong River in Southern Laos.
We follow peaceful dirt roads tracing the river’s edge, pedaling through lush landscapes and crossing between islands by small local ferries 🛶. With each crossing, we journey deeper into traditional riverside villages, where life flows slowly and harmoniously with nature. 🏡🌾
Around midday, we enjoy lunch on one of the islands—surrounded by swaying palms and quiet waters. As we explore, we kindly remind everyone to help preserve this unique environment by disposing of water bottles and cans properly. ♻️
In the afternoon, we continue cycling along the riverbank, following the path of the old French colonial railway (1893–1949)—a fascinating reminder of Laos’ colonial past. Our route ends at the old French port, before we return to Don Khon for a restful overnight stay.

DAY 16: DON KHON - PAKSE

Later, we board a boat for a scenic trip back to the mainland, stopping at a lively fish market where middlemen await the fresh catch of the day. From there, we take a short bus ride to the magnificent Khone Phapheng Falls, a breathtaking cascade marking the border with Cambodia. After an hour exploring the falls, we return to Pakse for a relaxing evening.

    Our enthusiastic and friendly English-speaking biking guides are not only knowledgeable and helpful but also trained in first aid and skilled in bike maintenance. Their primary role is to ensure your tour is safe, smooth, and enjoyable from start to finish. They expertly manage the group, coordinate with drivers and support vehicles, and attend to every detail—including stopping for snacks and fresh fruit along the way. More than just cycling experts, they serve as cultural ambassadors, enriching your journey with insights into the local traditions and communities you’ll encounter.

  • TRACK TYPE

    The route winds mostly through peaceful rural landscapes, gently rolling hills, and along a serene coastline. You'll cycle on a mix of smooth asphalt and rustic dirt roads that meander through lush countryside and vibrant rice fields. Quiet backroads trace the riverbanks and villages—narrow but perfectly suited for cycling, with very little traffic. Along the way, expect charming stretches of sandy paths, tiny lanes, and rural roads hugging the riverside, as well as some sections of sturdy concrete roads, creating a varied and captivating journey through nature’s beauty.

  • SCENERY & LANDSCAPE

    Experience the breathtaking beauty of Laos as you cycle through misty mountains, golden temples, and tranquil riversides. Journey from the spiritual charm of Luang Prabang’s ancient cityscapes to the quiet northern highlands dotted with green hills and traditional villages. Descend toward the majestic Mekong River, ride past lush rice paddies and towering limestone cliffs in Vang Vieng, and explore the tree-lined avenues and riverfront cafés of Vientiane. Finally, immerse yourself in the dreamlike scenery of Si Phan Don—the Four Thousand Islands—where palm-fringed shores, cascading waterfalls, and peaceful fishing villages create a serene paradise unlike any other.

    For groups of fewer than 6 passengers, a 16-seat bus will be provided, equipped with A/C and operated by experienced driver.

    For groups of fewer than 12, either a 25-seat bus or two 16-seat buses will be provided, equipped with A/C and operated by experienced drivers.

    For groups of up to 24, a 25-seat bus will be provided along with a luggage van, equipped with A/C and operated by experienced driver.

    All meals are included as outlined in your itinerary. You’ll enjoy a variety of delicious local dishes, with a focus on noodles, rice, curries, and soups—offering a true taste of the region.
