Overview
Experience the cultural heart and dramatic landscapes of Laos on this 5-day cycling journey from Luang Prabang to Vientiane, combining heritage, mountain scenery, riverside villages and some of the country’s most memorable cycling roads.
The adventure begins in Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its Buddhist temples, traditional architecture and peaceful atmosphere. Before heading south, explore the spiritual side of the city with the morning alms-giving ceremony, panoramic views from Mount Phousi and a scenic ride through the countryside to the sacred Pak Ou Caves.
From Luang Prabang, the route moves into the mountainous interior of Laos. Ride through quiet rural communities, forested hills and remote valleys on the journey toward Kasi, where the terrain becomes more adventurous and the scenery increasingly dramatic.
The following stage continues to Vang Vieng, with limestone karst mountains rising above farmland, rivers and small villages. This section offers some of the tour’s most distinctive landscapes and a rewarding balance of climbing, descending and relaxed countryside riding.
The final cycling day heads south toward Vientiane, gradually leaving the mountains behind as the landscape opens into flatter agricultural countryside. After approximately 80 km of cycling, our support vehicle completes the remaining journey into the Lao capital.
With approximately 232 km of cycling across four riding days, this tour is ideal for cyclists looking for a short but varied adventure that combines cultural discovery, mountain riding and the relaxed rhythm of rural Laos.

DAY 1: LUANG PRABANG – WELCOME TO LAOS
DAY 1: LUANG PRABANG – WELCOME TO LAOS
|
Welcome to Luang Prabang, the cultural heart of northern Laos and one of Southeast Asia’s most atmospheric historic cities. Upon arrival, meet our team and transfer to your hotel for check-in. The remainder of the day is yours to relax after your journey or begin exploring the charming streets of Luang Prabang at your own pace. Surrounded by mountains and positioned between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, Luang Prabang offers a peaceful introduction to Laos, with traditional architecture, Buddhist temples, local markets and a relaxed riverside atmosphere. Tonight, settle in and prepare for the cycling adventure ahead. |

DAY 2: LUANG PRABANG – PAK OU CAVES – LUANG PRABANG
DAY 2: LUANG PRABANG – PAK OU CAVES – LUANG PRABANG
|
Your adventure begins early in the morning with one of Luang Prabang’s most enduring traditions: the daily alms-giving ceremony. From a respectful position along the roadside, observe the quiet procession of saffron-robed monks and novices receiving offerings from the local community. This deeply rooted Buddhist tradition provides a meaningful glimpse into the spiritual life of Luang Prabang. We then make our way to Mount Phousi, where a short climb leads to elevated views across the historic town and surrounding landscape. After taking in the morning scenery, return to the hotel for breakfast. Later, we prepare our bikes and begin cycling north from Luang Prabang through peaceful countryside and traditional Lao villages toward the revered Pak Ou Caves. Set above the Mekong River, the caves contain thousands of Buddha images and remain an important place of worship and pilgrimage. Along the way, enjoy the changing scenery and relaxed rhythm of rural Laos. A local-style lunch will be served on the sandy banks at Pha An, providing time to rest and refuel. There will also be an opportunity to enjoy a refreshing swim in the clear waters of the Nam Ou River before beginning the return journey. We then cycle back toward Luang Prabang, completing a rewarding first day on the bikes. |

DAY 3: LUANG PRABANG – KASI
DAY 3: LUANG PRABANG – KASI
|
After breakfast, we leave Luang Prabang and journey deeper into the mountainous countryside of northern Laos. Our support vehicle helps us reach the starting point for today's ride, allowing us to concentrate on one of the most rewarding sections of the route. Once on the bikes, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic as we cycle through mountain scenery, remote villages and quiet stretches of countryside. The route combines rolling terrain with longer climbs and rewarding descents, offering an excellent introduction to cycling through the Lao highlands. Take your time on the climbs and enjoy the impressive views along the way, with our support crew nearby whenever needed. As the ride progresses, the higher mountain scenery gradually gives way to the greener valley surrounding Kasi. After approximately 60 km of cycling, we arrive in this quiet provincial town and settle into our local guesthouse for a well-earned rest. |
|
DAY 4: KASI – VANG VIENG
DAY 4: KASI – VANG VIENG
|
Today we continue south from Kasi toward Vang Vieng, with almost the entire journey completed by bicycle. Leaving town, we ride through a beautiful rural landscape framed by mountains, farmland and small communities. The terrain is generally more forgiving than the previous day's mountain stage, allowing us to settle into a comfortable rhythm and enjoy the scenery. As we approach Vang Vieng, the landscape becomes increasingly dramatic, with the limestone mountains for which the region is famous rising above the surrounding countryside. After approximately 57 km, we roll into Vang Vieng, a small riverside town surrounded by impressive karst formations. Check into the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the afternoon at leisure. Relax beside the Nam Song River, explore the town or simply put your feet up after another rewarding day on the bikes. |
|
DAY 5: VANG VIENG – VIENTIANE
DAY 5: VANG VIENG – VIENTIANE
|
Our final cycling day takes us south from Vang Vieng toward Vientiane, the capital of Laos. After breakfast, we leave the dramatic limestone mountains behind and begin riding through the countryside. The landscape gradually opens up as we travel south, passing agricultural areas, villages and everyday scenes of rural Lao life. Today is a longer riding stage, giving us plenty of time in the saddle for one final experience of Laos by bicycle. After approximately 80 km of cycling, we regroup with our support vehicle and transfer the remaining distance into Vientiane. Arrival in the capital marks the completion of our journey from Luang Prabang through the mountains and valleys of central Laos. Our cycling services conclude in Vientiane. Say farewell to your cycling crew and continue with your onward travel arrangements.
